BloodSugarBasics.com was originally developed by Merck in collaboration with the American College of Endocrinology (ACE). It’s goal was to provide useful information about blood sugar for people living with type 2 diabetes, including helpful tips on how to control blood sugar levels. Today, the website is funded and maintained by MedicareWire.com.
According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 26 percent of Americans age 65 and older have diabetes. Complications caused by the disease are a serious issue for the senior population. This is the reason MedicareWire is involved and pushing forward with new information, education and programs that help people through healthy habits.
We’ve redesigned the website and rewritten its content, however, the core message from the original ACE approved information remains. The “ABC’s of Diabetes Management” is a solid educational framework for anyone with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
While managing blood sugar levels helps reduce the health risk of serious complication from the disease, it’s a treatment, not a cure. That’s why our goal going forward is to offer a comprehensive lifestyle plan, that works along side the original ACE plan, to help type 2 diabetics completely reverse the disease and restore normal health.
For most type 2 diabetics, the disease is reversible. All you need is the proper education, desire and willpower to do it while continuing the treatment program created by your healthcare team.
If you have diabetes, or know a close friend or family member with the disease, this website is a great resource to help you learn more about the role blood sugar plays in diabetes and how you can work with your healthcare team (primary care provider, endocrinologist and diabetes educator) to set your blood sugar goals, reach them, and return to normal health.
About Our Food Blog
Our healthy food recipes originated from Life As A Plate, the creation of busy mom, wife, Crossfit fanatic and home chef, AndreAnna McLean.
AndreAnna started LifeAsAPlate.com as a creative outlet for her life as a home cook, wife to a gluten-free husband, and Crossfit athlete. Sadly, just as her blog was starting to take off, she decided that something had to give in her life. In her own words:
I did this to myself. I put too much on my plate and a hobby that I once loved became just one more thing I had to get done – one more deadline. It became work. And when a hobby becomes a job that takes time away from my children, it is no longer worth it. I don’t want to be that parent that wishes they were more present. I don’t want my kids to think the laptop attached to my hands is more important than coloring on the floor or going to see a movie.
I don’t want to be an observer in their lives. I want to be there with them living it.
Something has to give.
AndreAnna published colorful, delicious recipes on LifeAsAPlate.com. She put her heart into it, added a dash of humor, and a pinch of humility, all while showing the world a wonderful side of herself, her humanity.
When we found LifeAsAPlate.com at auction, we knew that we had to preserve AndreAnna’s accomplishment and continue her healthy food legacy.
